THE ADAPTIVE FORM RECOGNITION CONTROLLER (20) RECEIVES A SAMPLED SIGNAL REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CONTROLLED VARIABLE AND DETERMINES THE SOFTENED SIGNAL BASED ON THE SAMPLED SIGNAL. THE CONTROLLER (20) CHARACTERIZES A SOFT SIGNAL DISTURBANCE THROUGH A DAMPING FACTOR AND A CLOSED CIRCUIT RESPONSE TIME. WHEN A SIGNIFICANT LOAD DISTURBANCE OR CHANGE OF THE SET POINT OCCURS, THE CONTROLLER (20) ESTIMATES AN OPTIMAL GAIN BASED ON THE DAMPING FACTOR, AND AN OPTIMAL COMPREHENSIVE TIME BASED ON THE RESPONSE TIME. THE ESTIMATED OPTIMAL GAIN AND THE ESTIMATED OPTIMAL COMPREHENSIVE TIME ARE USED TO DETERMINE A NEW GAIN AND A NEW COMPREHENSIVE TIME, ACCORDING TO WHICH THE CONTROLLER CONTROL PARAMETERS ARE SUBSEQUENTLY ADJUSTED.
