Abstract
1,093,230. Microprogramming. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Oct. 14, 1965 [Dec. 18, 1964], No. 43569/65. Heading G4A. In a microprogramme control system, a combination of branch signals derived from a current microinstruction can be modified before use in selecting the next microinstruction to reduce the number of possibilities for the latter. A microinstruction selects two of a plurality of variable and constant branch bits to be converted under control of the microinstruction into two further branch bits which together with bits provided direct by the microinstruction constitute the address of the next microinstruction in a read-only store. The latter address may also depend on the current ordinary instruction. In the conversion logic shown, different pairs of initial branch bits can result in the same pair of further branch bits.
